Position: Small
Group Literacy Tutor

- Teach small groups
(4 - 6 students) in English for Speakers
of Other Languages or Basic Literacy at
either our Hartford Literacy Center or Wickham
Center in East Hartford.
- A training workshop
which includes classroom and practical experience
is required. Workshop will cover issues
such as characteristics of the adult learner,
student-centered teaching, lesson planning
and collaborative learning.
- Training
workshops are held several times throughout
the year on a variety of schedules. The next workshop will be held in October 2007.
- Time commitment is
2 hours per week for at least one year.
Placements are available during day or evening
hours.
Position: Tech Aide

- Short-term special project support, installing software and hardware. Experience with Linux helpful.
- Ongoing maintainence projects also available, installing software updates, checking hardware, etc.
- Day or evening hours available.
Position: Website Support

- Updating website (using Dreamweaver).
- Time commitment is approximately one hour every other week. Position can be shared.
- Day or evening hours available.
Position: Computer Lab Tutor
CONTACT: Lynn Metz, 233 -3853 EXT. 205; lynn.metz@lvgh.org
- Work one-on-one or in small groups with students studying to
improve their English literacy skills
- Teach basic to intermediate computer skills or help students
use various adult literacy software programs
- Brief orientation and training (1 -2 hours) and basic computer
skills required.
- Time commitment is 1 - 2 hours per week for at least one
semester.
- Day or evening hours available.

Position: Non-Teaching
Volunteer

- Help publish our biannual student newsletter.
- Help plan and implement
our signature fundraising event, Cele-BRAIN-tion
- Offer your expertise
or interest on one on our special project
committees, e.g. public relations, fundraising,
special events.
- Recruit your book club
or civic group to help with holiday gift
wrapping, readathons and other fundraisers.
- Help plan and develop
new fundraising and public relation projects.
- Assist with mailings
at various times during the year.
- Time commitment is
variable and can be flexible to meet your
schedule.
