Cleverton

Cleverton is a former Basic Literacy student who recently returned to LVGH to join our Career Pathways program. He has always been able to find work, but mainly minimum wage jobs. His goal was to find a new role that was stable, paid a livable wage, and offered potential to grow.

“I’m a hard worker. Give me a job, and I’ll do it. But because of my difficulties with reading and computers, I was struggling to access better opportunities for myself.” Cleverton sought help building his resume, finding and applying for jobs and, eventually, with the on-boarding process. He was able to reach his goal recently, as he was hired by a local retirement community as a member of their maintenance team.

“LVGH was with me every step of the way. They still call to check in. Without a doubt, this wouldn’t have happened without LVGH. They're my teammates.”

Cleverton noted that beyond just gaining career advice, this process also helped him gain confidence.

“You must push yourself in life. And it’s ok to ask for help to get to where you want to go. School was never easy for me, but LVGH never let that be my excuse. They made me believe in me.”

“For me, this is more than just getting a job. This is life-changing. And not just my life, my wife and kids, too. My previous jobs never let me relax because sometimes I needed to work multiple jobs at once to support my family. Now I’m making a livable wage. I can finally relax a little. I’ve never had weekends off before. Last weekend, I had a daddy-daughter date with my youngest. Haven’t done that in years. It was awesome.”
