Hawa

Hawa was born and raised in Port Sudan. She graduated from college with a Bachelor’s in Economics and worked there for ten years as an accountant. She loved her life in Sudan, but moved to the United States in 2019 to be with her husband. Once here, she was eager to learn English and meet people. She was so happy to have found that opportunity at LVGH, but as soon as she was ready to enroll, COVID-19 hit and put a pause in her plans. Hawa insists that if it weren’t for the timing of COVID, she would be fluent in English by now!

“These classes have really benefited me in my day-to-day life,” she says. “I feel much more comfortable now.” In addition to her literacy classes, Hawa also received help in enrolling her two daughters in school and finding a job with our career counselor.

Hawa comes to class every week and so does her two-year-old daughter, Amina. Amina is enrolled in childcare and enjoys playing in the kitchen and coloring. She has even started to pick up on the English language while playing with the other children. “The childcare program has been so helpful, and Amina really loves it!” We’re so happy to see Hawa and Amina continue to progress and build their life in the U.S.
